Paver planning guide

How the paver calculator works

The estimate starts with the paved surface area. It divides that area by one paver's effective coverage, adds the waste allowance you select, and rounds up once to a whole-paver purchasing quantity.

  1. 1

    Measure the area

Use dimensions or enter a known area.

  2. 2

    Choose a paver

Select a convenience preset or custom size.

  3. 3

    Apply waste

Add material for cuts, breakage, and spares.

  4. 4

    Round for purchase

The final result is rounded up to whole pavers.

Transparent assumptions

Coverage, joints, and optional materials

Paver face area comes from length multiplied by width. If joint width is greater than zero, the calculator uses the paver dimensions plus that joint width as the effective module. Confirm product dimensions and layout guidance before ordering.

Base and bedding sand are separate opt-in estimates. Each volume equals project area multiplied by the depth you enter. These estimates do not assume material density, compaction, or supplier packaging.

Optional cost is paver material only: the final whole-paver quantity multiplied by your price per paver. Labor, delivery, taxes, restraints, base, sand, and other project costs are not included.

Common questions

Paver calculator FAQ

How do I calculate how many pavers I need?

Measure the project area, divide it by the effective coverage of one paver, apply your selected waste allowance, and round up to whole pavers. This calculator performs those steps without rounding intermediate values.

How much extra should I allow for cuts and breakage?

The right allowance depends on the project layout, cuts, pattern, and product. Choose the percentage that fits your plan; the calculator does not assume one percentage is correct for every project.

Does joint width change the paver count?

It can. When you enter a positive joint width, the calculator uses the paver plus the joint as an effective layout module. A zero joint width uses only the paver face dimensions.

Can the calculator estimate paver base and bedding sand?

Yes. Open Advanced options and enter a base depth or bedding sand depth when you want that material-volume estimate. Leave an optional depth blank when you do not need its estimate. No material density or weight is assumed.
